Written by on May 13, 2026

GUELPH — Spencer Brown, who led the Toronto Argonauts in rushing last season, was among 10 players released by the CFL club Wednesday.

The six-foot, 220-pound American ran for 314 yards on 74 carries with a touchdown in nine regular-season contests in 2025. He also had 42 catches for 290 yards and a touchdown.

Also let go were American quarterback Jarret Doege, Global defensive lineman Thiadric Hansen and Canadian linebacker Jordan Herdman-Reed, all CFL veterans.

Doege appeared in 18 games last season, his first with Toronto. The six-foot-one, 210-pound Texan completed 97-of-142 passes for 905 yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Doege also spent time with Edmonton (2023-24).

Hansen was with Toronto the last two seasons after starting his CFL career with Winnipeg in 2019. He appeared in 69 career regular-season games, recording 22 tackles, 40 special-teams tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.

The six-foot-two, 243-pound German was part of three Grey Cup-winning teams (2019 and ’21 with Winnipeg, 2024 with Toronto).

Herdman-Reed, 31, of Winnipeg, was entering his second season with Toronto. The six-foot, 235-pound former Simon Fraser star also spent time with B.C. (2019, 2023), Saskatchewan (2021-22, 2024) and Calgary (2023) before joining the Argos in 2025.

“This is a tough day and a very difficult part of the business,” said Mike Miller, Toronto’s first-year head coach. “It’s a relationship business (and) you can’t help but get close to guys and you respect all of what the players have given us.

“Again, you just have to make some very hard decisions.”
