Ontario spent nearly $200k in aviation-related costs for returned private jet: docs

TORONTO — The Ontario government has released documents related to the purchase and subsequent sale of a $28.9-million private jet.
Premier Doug Ford announced the purchase of a used 2016 Bombardier Challenger 650 jet last month, but agreed to sell it back to the company within days after the news triggered public outrage.
At the time, the premier said the plane was sold back for the exact same price, promising to publicly release financial documentation on the transactions.
The documents released late Wednesday afternoon show the province incurred nearly $200,000 before taxes in aviation-related costs outside of the purchase and sale.
These include expenses of nearly $140,000 in aircraft management services such as maintenance, storage and servicing, as well as nearly $34,000 in outside legal counsel.
A ministry briefing note says the executive aircraft was purchased from Bombardier on April 15 and sold back to the aerospace manufacturer on April 27.
