Ontario’s police watchdog investigating after cyclist injured during Toronto arrest

Written by on June 5, 2026

TORONTO — Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 21-year-old cyclist was seriously injured during a Toronto police arrest last week.

The Special Investigations Unit says officers tried to stop the man after he went through a stop sign on Queens Quay near Little Norway Park on the evening of May 31.

They say there was an interaction between officers and the cyclist before he was arrested and ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act. He has since been released.

The SIU says the cyclist’s lawyer notified them after he sought treatment in hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious, non-life-threatening injury.

The SIU is seeking body-worn camera footage of the incident.

They are asking anyone with information, including video or photos, to contact them.
