Toronto police under investigation after teen boy injured during arrest: watchdog

Written by on November 2, 2026

TORONTO — Ontario’s police watchdog says it is investigating after a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured during his arrest at a Toronto transit station last month.

The Special Investigations Unit says a group of youths reportedly didn’t pay the transit fare at the TTC Finch West station around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.

The SIU says two officers confronted the youths, leading to an interaction with one of the boys.

The watchdog says the boy was arrested and released then later went to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious but not life-threatening injury.

It says police learned of the boy’s injury on Oct. 9 and reported it to the SIU the same day.

The SIU says three investigators have been assigned to the case, and one subject officer and one witness officer have been designated.
