Latest blaze at Toronto condo towers extinguished, fire crews no longer monitoring
Written by The Canadian Press on May 11, 2026
TORONTO — Toronto fire officials say they have extinguished a blaze at two Toronto highrises that started months after a similar fire displaced hundreds of residents.
They say fire operations including monitoring at 11 Thorncliffe Park Dr. and 21 Overlea Blvd., concluded at noon on Monday and the buildings have been turned over to their respective property management companies.
The fire was burning the insulation trapped in the concrete walls between the two buildings, just as it did late last year.
About 400 units had to be evacuated last year, partly due to a spike in carbon monoxide levels, but the buildings were not evacuated when the latest blaze started last week.
Toronto fire Chief Jim Jessop says it’s been a difficult situation for the community.
He thanked residents for their patience and co-operation throughout the firefighting efforts.
