Ontario school honours alumnus Jeremy Hansen ahead of Artemis II moon mission
Written by The Canadian Press on March 31, 2026
A high school in southwestern Ontario where Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen studied is celebrating his role in the planned launch tomorrow of a mission that is set to send humans back to the moon for the first time in more than 50 years.
Hansen will join veteran NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch to serve as the mission specialist for Artemis II and become the first non-American to travel beyond low Earth orbit.
Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute principal Tiffany Birtch says her school east of London, Ont., is organizing activities and events showcasing Hansen’s school life, his career and how he became an astronaut.
Birtch says the school is screening NASA’s livestream of the launch pad in the library and will be airing all NASA press conferences in its library.
She says teachers and students have put together presentations and displays focusing on Hansen’s life and his mission to the moon.
The school is encouraging families to watch the launch planned for tomorrow evening.
