‘Disturbing’ stabbing of 8 horses on Ontario farm remains unsolved a year later

Written by on August 24, 2026

WELLAND — Police in Niagara Region say they are still trying to solve a “disturbing” case of animal cruelty that left one horse dead and several others injured a year ago, as they renew their appeal for information.

Police say the attack on horses at a boarding farm in Welland, Ont., occurred overnight between July 30 and July 31, 2025.

Eight horses had cuts or stab wounds and one horse was found dead during routine morning checks at the farm near Buchner Road and Highway 140.

Police said at the time that one of the horses was taken to an animal hospital for emergency care while others were treated on site.

They say detectives have been investigating since but the case remains unsolved.

Niagara regional police are once again asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
