Messy mix of snow and freezing rain to hit Ontario: Environment Canada
Written by The Canadian Press on February 17, 2026
TORONTO — A messy mix of snow and freezing rain is set to hammer parts of Ontario.
Environment Canada says local power outages, slippery commutes and reduced visibility are some of the possible impacts from the storm set to move in overnight and linger Wednesday.
Toronto, Hamilton and other areas to the southwest are expected to see a mix of rain and freezing rain.
The most significant impacts could be felt from Waterloo through to Lake Huron, where strong winds are expected to combine with up to 15 millimetres of ice buildup.
Areas east of Highway 400 from cottage country toward Kingston are expected to see Wednesday’s precipitation fall as mostly ice pellets and snow, with up to 15 centimetres possible in some places.
Starting tonight, the low-pressure system will move into the Thunder Bay area, where the forecast calls for between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow.
