Toronto police to provide update on deadly weekend street festival shooting

Written by on July 13, 2026

TORONTO — Toronto police say Chief Myron Demkiw will provide an update this afternoon on the deadly shooting that took place at the Salsa on St. Clair festival this past weekend.

The press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT at Toronto police headquarters, and Demkiw will be joined by Mayor Olivia Chow.

As of early Monday afternoon, no suspects had been identified or arrested.

The street festival celebrating Latin culture was cut short Saturday by sudden gunfire that left two people dead and sent four people to hospital with serious injuries.

Police estimate roughly 13,000 people were in attendance, with photos and videos on social media showing festivalgoers dancing in crowded streets before violence erupted, sending thousands running for cover.

Toronto’s iconic CN Tower paid tribute late Sunday to the victims of the shooting.

Officials on social media said the tower’s bright lights would dim at the top of every hour following Saturday’s shooting.

Tributes have poured from people and organizations across Canada, including the non-profit group behind Filipino Lapu Lapu Day celebrations in Vancouver, where 11 were killed last year in a car-ramming attack.
