Toronto police officer charged after private databases accessed

Written by on April 21, 2026

TORONTO — A Toronto police officer has been arrested and charged with the unauthorized use of a computer.

Police say an officer allegedly accessed private police databases without authorization on multiple occasions between June and December 2025.

Const. Rifat Hassan is set to appear in court in July.

Police say the 33-year-old has served with the force for about 10 months.

He is to be suspended without pay.

Police say the arrest is not related to the high-profile organized crime and corruption investigation known as Project South that led to charges against seven Toronto police officers and one retired officer.
