Southern Ontario bracing for first snowfall this season

TORONTO — Several parts of southern Ontario could see the first snowfall of the season today.

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for several areas across the province, ranging from London, Ont., to Ottawa as a low pressure system moves through the province.

The weather agency says Toronto could receive between two to 10 centimetres of snowfall starting Sunday morning and continuing into the evening, while Ottawa is expected to get five to 15 centimetres.

The weather agency says motorists should expect difficult driving conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly and drivers should consider installing their winter tires.

In anticipation of the snowfall, the City of Toronto has opened a select number of new shelter spaces for people experiencing homelessness this weekend as temperatures in the city are expected to plunge to -5 C on Sunday.

Southern and central Quebec is also slated to get its first snowfall of the season, with Montreal expected to receive nearly 10 centimetres of snow through Monday.
