Shock, sadness after 45-year-old woman killed in LaSalle, Ont.: community leader

Written by on March 6, 2026

A community leader in Windsor, Ont., is calling for calm as police investigate the killing of 45-year-old Nancy Grewal earlier this week.

Mohammed Fazle Baki, president of the South Asian Centre of Windsor, says the attack on Grewal in nearby LaSalle has left the community “deeply shocked and saddened.”

The LaSalle Police Service says it launched a homicide investigation after Grewal died at a hospital on Tuesday following a report of a stabbing.

Police Chief Michael Pearce says investigators believe Grewal was intentionally targeted and police are aware her death has been the subject of “significant public interest.”

Grewal was a social media influencer with an audience of thousands, and her death has prompted international media coverage.

Baki, who is also a University of Windsor professor, says he is urging the area’s South Asian community to have confidence in Canadian law enforcement.

“Our focus is on encouraging the community to remain calm, support one another and allow law enforcement to conduct their investigation,” he said.
