Police seize 2,500 items believed to be stolen from Toronto homes, charge 3 people

TORONTO — Toronto police say three people are facing charges after officers seized more than 2,500 items believed to be stolen in break-and-enter thefts targeting high-end homes.
Police say the investigation, dubbed Project Compass, began in September with a focus on condo units, and it grew to include 21 suspected break-and-enter thefts in the Greater Toronto Area.
Officers allege the suspects stole items with a total value of up to $1.5 million, including cash, jewelry and precious metals.
Police say they searched three homes and vehicles in late March and arrested three people, who face 150 charges combined, including disguise with intent and breaking and entering.
Officers allege the suspects used a pawn shop in downtown Toronto to turn the stolen goods into cash.
Police say they have launched a website where people can view the stolen items and submit claims for ownership.
