Police in Ontario seize nearly 1.7 tonnes of drugs in cross-border investigation

WINDSOR — Police say they have seized nearly 1.7 tonnes of drugs that alleged criminal groups were attempting to smuggle across the Canada-United States border.
Ontario Provincial Police say the investigation centred in the border city of Windsor led to one of the single largest drug busts in the province’s history.
Investigators allege a criminal network relied on commercial trucks to move the drugs, arranging for drivers to hide illegal goods inside legitimate shipments.
Police say 21 people are facing a total of 102 charges, and two suspects from Windsor are still wanted.
The bust involved multiple police forces, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the RCMP and Windsor police.
The announcement comes days before the long-awaited Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Ontario and Michigan is set to open.
