Ontario mother who took baby to Russia charged with abduction, disobeying court order

Written by on September 15, 2025

South Simcoe police say a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a woman who allegedly took her infant daughter to Russia and refused to return despite a family court order.

Police say the baby had been living with both parents in Innisfil, just south of Barrie, Ont., when the child abduction was reported in March.

They say the baby’s father reported that the woman had taken the child to Russia with plans to visit family, then made no attempt to return to Canada.

While the police investigation was underway, investigators say the father obtained a court order that compelled the mother to return the infant to Canada and to her father.

Police say the mother did not appear at any of the court hearings in Canada and did not comply with the court order.

The 40-year-old woman has been charged with abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order and with disobeying a court order.
