One dead, one injured in highway collision near Hamilton

Provincial police say they are investigating after a fatal multi-vehicle collision on Highway 8 near Hamilton this morning.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says emergency crews responded to the collision at 5:30 a.m.

He says the collision involved a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles, and one car caught fire.

Schmidt says one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 8 was closed for hours between Orkney Road and Highway 52 near Rockton.

Schmidt says any witnesses or anyone with information should contact the OPP.

“It was dark and still foggy, a bit misty at time,” he said in a social media post.

“We are looking into road conditions, weather conditions, driver condition.”
