TORONTO — Toronto police say an officer was hit by a vehicle and injured during an early-morning car theft investigation.

Ontario’s police watchdog has also been called in to investigate after police say officers fired at the vehicle before the driver fled the scene and was later tracked down.

Both the officer and the driver had non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say officers responded to a vehicle theft call near O’Connor Drive and Donlands Avenue around 1 a.m.

They say an officer was hit by a vehicle after police tried to stop the driver and then shot at the vehicle.
