Man dead after police-involved shooting in Niagara Falls, Ont., SIU investigating

Written by on July 30, 2025

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a police-involved shooting in Niagara Falls that left a man dead Wednesday morning.

The Special Investigations Unit says the shooting happened around 11:15 a.m. in the area of Stanley Avenue and Peer Street and a man was later pronounced dead in hospital.

It says the incident involved officers with the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement unit, which is operated by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Niagara Region police describe the unit as a multi-jurisdictional team of officers seconded from various police services across Ontario.

Niagara Region police say their officers were not involved in the shooting, but some of them assisted in the response.

They say there are no ongoing concerns for public safety.
