Man accused of fatal Toronto stabbing may have been friends with victim: police

Written by on May 17, 2026

TORONTO — Toronto police say they have arrested a suspect accused of stabbing and killing a man investigators believe was his friend.

Police say the fatal stabbing happened at an apartment building in the west end of the city shortly after midnight on Sunday.

When officers arrived at the scene, police say they found a man in his early 30s suffering from stab wounds to his neck and chest.

Police say first responders attempted life-saving measures before the victim was rushed to a nearby trauma centre where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they apprehended a suspect in the vicinity of the apartment building where the stabbing happened, near Kipling Avenue and Albion Road.

Duty Inspector Peter Wallace told reporters on Sunday that it’s believed there was a dispute between the two men inside one of the building’s units that escalated to violence.

Because the victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other, and possibly friends, Wallace says there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

He says the identity of the victim will not be released at this time as police are still in the process of notifying his family.

Wallace says residents in the area can expect an increased police presence as officers canvas for witnesses, and he appealed to anyone with information about the stabbing to contact police.
