Ghana, Panama fans gather in Toronto for World Cup match as stormy weather looms

Written by on June 17, 2026

TORONTO — Soccer fans are gearing up for Toronto’s second FIFA World Cup match as Ghana takes on Panama this evening, although potentially stormy weather may get in the way of some festivities.

Ghana supporters are gathering at Sankofa Square in downtown Toronto for the Ghana Fun Fest Canada, where food and music started as early as 11 a.m.

Ghana fans are set to begin marching to Toronto Stadium from Stanley Park at 3 p.m., while Panama supporters are set to rally at Trinity Bellwoods Park before their own march.

Fans may need to have their rain gear handy for the 7 p.m. match kickoff, with the weather forecast calling for rain early this evening and possible thunderstorms later on.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto warning of strong wind gusts and a potential for “severe” thunderstorms later tonight with more than 40 millimetres of rain possible in some areas.

Watch parties have been scheduled across the Greater Toronto Area, including the FIFA Fan Festival at Fort York, Celebration Square in Mississauga or the Ajax Fan Zone at Pat Bayly Square.

Toronto’s FIFA Fan Festival has already been cut short or postponed during previous matches due to inclement weather.

Toronto is hosting six World Cup matches, with the tournament opener ending in a 1-1 draw between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina last Friday.
