Former Durham cop accused of sexual assault faces new charge: Ontario watchdog
Written by The Canadian Press on August 6, 2026
Ontario’s police watchdog says a former Durham police officer has been charged in a second historic sexual assault.
The Special Investigations Unit says the latest sexual assault charge relates to alleged conduct between May 1999 and December 2009.
The SIU says the former officer was initially arrested in May in connection to the alleged 2003 sexual assault of a girl.
The SIU relaunched its 2003 investigation in 2024 after she came forward with new information.
They say another woman, an adult, was identified during that investigation, leading to the latest charge.
The watchdog also announced today that the charges in the 2003 case have been updated to a single count each of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, breach of trust, assault with a weapon and criminal harassment.
