Eglinton LRT has targeted opening date of Feb. 8: Ford

Written by on January 26, 2026

TORONTO — A long-delayed light rail transit line in Toronto could be opening in less than two weeks.

Speaking to reporters at Queen’s Park, Premier Doug Ford said the goal is to have the Eglinton Crosstown LRT up and running on Feb. 8.

It’s been 15 years since construction began on the line, and six years since it was originally supposed to open.

The 19-kilometre, 25-station line will run between Kennedy Station in east Toronto and Mount Dennis in the west.

The province has said service will ramp up over six months and see trains as frequently as every 3 1/2 minutes.

A report last fall from the provincial transit agency Metrolinx said the project had incurred a cost of over $13 billion.
