Child critically injured in Markham, Ont., house fire: police

MARKHAM — Police in York Region say a child was critically injured in a residential fire in Markham, Ont.
They say first responders rushed to the scene in the area of 16th Avenue and 9th Line shortly after 12 p.m. Friday.
Police initially said the home was evacuated and no injuries were reported.
But in an update on social media, police say firefighters who were clearing the home found a child inside.
Police say the child was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition.
They say roads will remain closed in the area as the fire investigation continues.
