Written by on April 30, 2026

The body of an Ontario police officer who died in a highway crash east of Toronto this week was taken to Oshawa on Thursday ahead of his funeral.

Sgt. Brandon Malcolm died while on duty on Monday after a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 401 in Cobourg.

The procession departed the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto on Thursday afternoon and headed east on Highway 401 to Oshawa.

Along the way, police officers, first responders and civilians gathered on some of the highway’s overpasses.

Police say funeral arrangements for the 33-year-old Malcolm are still in their early stages.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique said Monday night that Malcolm joined the OPP in 2020 and was also a member of the force’s precision motorcycle team, the Golden Helmets.
