Written by The Canadian Press on August 7, 2026
Toronto police say they will provide an update today on the Salsa on St. Clair festival shooting that left two people dead, injured several others and sent thousands running for cover last month.
At an unrelated news conference on Thursday, police Chief Myron Demkiw said police had arrested people in connection to the July 11 shooting.
Demkiw said he was waiting until today to share more details.
Police say the shooting was targeted and identified the victims as 25-year-old Shaquan Quashie and 20-year-old Cesar Vernaza.
Investigators say the two knew each other, and four others were also sent to hospital.
Police say 13,000 people were at the festival when gunfire erupted, an attack that’s shaken Toronto’s festival community.
