Toronto police to give update on July 27 U.S. consulate shooting investigation

TORONTO — Toronto police say they will provide an update this morning on last week’s shooting at the U.S. consulate, the second such incident at the building this year.
Police Chief Myron Demkiw and Chief Supt. Joe Matthews will speak at 11 a.m. local time.
The July 27 shooting prompted an early morning brief high-speed police chase.
Toronto police and Mayor Olivia Chow called it a brazen attack that occurred despite a “highly visible” police cruiser stationed at the consulate.
The consulate was previously targeted on March 10, when two suspects allegedly fired multiple shots at the building before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
Two people have since been arrested and charged in that case, though those charges have not been tested in court.
