Doctor at Toronto’s SickKids hospital faces child sex abuse material charges

TORONTO — Toronto police say a doctor at the Hospital for Sick Children has been charged with accessing and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Investigators say 44-year-old Dilan Dissanayake was arrested today after an investigation that began in January.
They executed search warrants at the hospital and a private residence in February and seized several devices, including a work computer.
Police say they have found no evidence that the material linked to the charges is related to Dissanayake’s work as a physician.
SickKids says it is “deeply upset and dismayed” by the allegations and that the doctor was immediately placed on leave after the hospital became aware of the police investigation.
The hospital says in a statement that it has not been notified of any risk to patients or their families.
