TORONTO — Two more boys are facing charges after a 12-year-old allegedly struck a Toronto police officer with a stolen car and was shot at by police before he fled the scene.
The 12-year-old driver, who was arrested on Monday and taken to a hospital, faces charges including attempted murder, dangerous operation and theft of a motor vehicle.
Police say they have now charged another 12-year-old boy with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation and possessing property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000.
A 14-year-old boy is also charged with possessing property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000.
The province’s police watchdog is investigating the incident.
Special Investigations Unit spokesperson Kristy Denette has said that four officers in two vehicles tried to box in a stolen vehicle on Leaside Bridge. As the driver tried to flee, he allegedly hit a police officer who fired multiple times at the vehicle, Denette said.
She said it was not immediately clear whether the officer fired at the car before or after he was hit.
The boy who has been charged with attempted murder has since been released from hospital and is in custody at a youth centre, she said on Wednesday. The officer was also released from hospital.
