Toronto police to provide update on multiple shootings, including at U.S. consulate

Written by on June 16, 2026

TORONTO — Toronto police Chief Myron Demkiw is expected to provide an update today on arrests made in multiple shooting investigations, including shots fired at the U.S. Consulate in March.

A veteran Toronto police officer was killed last week during a raid linked to the investigations.

Const. Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was shot on Thursday while officers were carrying out a search at an apartment building in the city’s northwest and died in hospital.

A suspect who was shot by police, 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett, is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Investigators had said they were still searching for a second suspect, 19-year-old Zara Jabbi, who is wanted in connection with the U.S. Consulate shooting and believed to be armed and dangerous.

Demkiw is set to hold a press conference this morning alongside chief Supt. Joe Matthews of detective operations.
