AJAX — Police east of Toronto say a man has been charged after he allegedly drove a stolen school bus while impaired and crashed into a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Durham regional police say they responded to an impaired driving call around 11:30 p.m. Monday night near Taunton Road and Westney Road in Ajax, Ont.
Police say they received reports of a shortened school bus driving erratically then trying to pull into a McDonald’s drive-thru before colliding with the drive-thru barrier.
They allege the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested without incident.
Investigators allege the 38-year-old male suspect stole the bus from a bus yard in Toronto and possibly collided into parked buses there. They allege he also stole radios and keys from other vehicles.
Police say the man is facing multiple charges, including impaired operation of a vehicle and two counts of possessing property obtained by crime over $5000.
