OPP say two people killed in a residential fire in Echo Bay.

ECHO BAY — The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a residential fire on Highway 17B in Echo Bay, about 25 km east of Sault Ste. Marie, killed two people.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon around 3:51 p.m.

Officers along with the Echo Bay and Townships Volunteer Fire Department and Sault Ste. Marie Paramedic Services responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, two individuals were found deceased inside the structure. No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is still unknown as the investigation continues.

The OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services, the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service have all been called in to investigate.
