Boy, 12, arrested in Guelph, Ont., minivan theft after hit-and-run crash: police

Written by on February 24, 2026

GUELPH — Police in Guelph, Ont., say a 12-year-old boy has been arrested after a minivan was allegedly stolen from a family friend and then crashed in a hit-and-run.

Police say last month a woman reported her minivan had been stolen overnight from her home.

The woman told police her friend’s son, who had been staying at the house, was gone.

Shortly after, they say the woman got a call from another police service who said her van had been involved in a hit-and-run crash with another stolen vehicle.

On Monday, a month after the reported theft, a 12-year-old boy came to a Guelph police station with a parent.

Police say he was arrested for vehicle theft and will appear in court next month.
