Written by The Canadian Press on October 5, 2025
HALIBURTON — Police say two people are dead after a crash on a highway in Ontario’s cottage country.
Provincial police say officers from the Haliburton Highlands OPP Detachment were called to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and transport truck on Highway 118 late Sunday morning.
They say the impact of the crash caused the truck to catch on fire, but that was extinguished by fire services that also responded to the scene.
Police say the driver and passenger of the motorcycle — a 64-year-old woman and 79-year-old man — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team is assisting with an ongoing investigation, and Highway 118 is closed between Tulip Road and the 25th Line.
Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or who has video footage of the incident to come forward.
