Written by on September 20, 2025

MISSISSAUGA — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says a 58-year-old man who was shot in an altercation with Windsor Police earlier this week died Saturday morning in hospital.

The police watchdog says the investigation is ongoing, with five investigators and three forensic investigators appointed to look into the case.

The agency says the man told police at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday that he wanted to harm himself, and officers responded to the scene and found him in the backyard of a home in the area of Stanley Street and Lillian Avenue.

It says in a statement that officers tried to negotiate with the man, who later left the residence and pointed his firearm at officers.

The Special Investigations Unit says the man was shot after three officers discharged their firearms, and he had been taken to the hospital, where he died.

The agency says it’s appealing for videos, photos and witnesses to aid in its investigation.
