BELLEVILLE, Ont. — The Belleville Senators will be watching the American Hockey League playoffs.

Taylor Leier had two goals and an assist and Wayne Simpson chipped in three helpers as the Rochester Americans doubled up the Senators 4-2 on Sunday.

Belleville needed a win to qualify for the post-season. But its loss combined with Cleveland’s victory over the Toronto Marlies gave the Monsters the final playoff spot in the East, with the Senators missing by two points.

Tage Thompson and Casey Fitgerald also scored for the Americans (46-23-7) while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 saves for the win in his AHL debut.

Logan Brown and Jack Rodewald responded for the Senators (37-31-8). Marcus Hogberg stopped 25 shots in a losing cause.

Rochester went 3 for 4 on the power play while Belleville scored once on four chances with the man advantage.
